Garage Door Maintenance Tips Every Naples Homeowner Should Know

A quick semi-annual routine that will double the lifespan of most of your door components.

Garage Door Maintenance Tips Naples

The Naples climate is spectacular for humans and brutal for garage doors. Salt, humidity and afternoon storms wear on every moving part. A 30-minute semi-annual routine is enough to double the working life of most components and catch the small stuff before it becomes an emergency call at 10 pm.

Twice a year, walk the door

Look at the tracks, the rollers, the hinges, the cables and the springs. Anything obviously bent, frayed or cracked is a call to us — not a DIY fix.

Clean and lube

Wipe the tracks with a dry cloth, then apply a garage-door-specific silicone spray or white lithium grease to the hinges, roller stems and springs. Skip WD-40; it strips protective oils.

Test the balance

Pull the red release cord with the door closed. Lift the door by hand halfway. It should stay put. If it slams down or rockets up, the springs are out of balance and need a pro.

Test the safety reversal

Place a two-by-four flat on the ground under the door and close it. The door must reverse when it hits the wood. If it doesn't, unplug the opener and call us.

Photograph everything

Take a quick series of phone photos each spring and each fall. Comparing them side by side makes it easy to spot slow-developing problems like paint bubbling on cables or rust bleeding on hinges.
